Established in 1937, obstetrics and gynecology department – the earliest one offering modern college education on clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology in northwest China, has strong growth potential and has become a comprehensive department covering medical treatment, teaching and research and flush with technical force and well-organized trapezoidal structure. The department is also one of the first training bases of 4-level endoscopy surgery approved by the Ministry of Health, furthermore, playing many other roles like Shaanxi emergency and ICU center, clinical research branch, northwest clinical center of GSEPS, the training base facing to obstetricians and gynecologists in the whole province, national institute for drug clinical trials, as well as offering master and doctoral education. Now, it has built up 3 inpatient areas with 102 beds available for clinical teaching. There are 42 full-time teachers, 11 of which are professors, 11 are associate professors, 8 are lecturers and 12 are teaching assistants. The numbers receiving doctorates and master degree respectively are 18 and 24 and one of them is doctoral supervisor and 10 of them are master supervisors.

Teaching Tasks
The department offers teaching programs including 5-year Program, 5+3 Integrated Program and Zonglian Experimental Class Program on Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology, as well as postgraduate and PhD education, resident physicians training, further education for visiting physicians and incubation of general practitioners.
Highlights
The department has adopted many teaching methods like PBL, mixed-style teaching, simulation teaching and online-video teaching to enhance the teaching quality. Every teacher focus on their own academic research and deliver valuable and profound lectures. Regarding the practice teaching, it makes full use of simulative teaching aid and typical patients and adopts phased clinical simulative teaching methods, leveraging the advantages of training base of 4-level endoscopy surgery, guiding students to participate in the clinical medical process, thoroughly improve students' clinical skills, paying more attention to impart the newest updated knowledge to students and cultivate more excellent students with solid basic knowledge and open-mind.
Achievements
The department has always been staying focus on the teaching research, and it has published 13 teaching papers in recent three years. It has been committing to 3 educational reform projects launched by the university in recent 10 years and involved in a dozen of textbook compilation. Many staff are awarded Excellent Teacher by the university and the hospital and 7 of its teachers win second and third prize of Teaching Competition hosted by the university and 2 teachers win Excellent Textbook award and one teacher wins third prize of PBL Teaching Plan Competition and one wins third prize of Online-video Teaching Competition.
