Professor Jacques Neefjes, Member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, expert in tumor immunological research and Professor Baoxu Pang, very talented young group leader working in the field of functional genomics from Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) among the delegation from Leiden University was invited to visit our Daminggong Hospital for academic exchange and cooperation on September 18th, 2019.
During the academic visit, the group of Professor Malgorzata A. Garstka (Gao Xia) delivered presentations and discussed with the professors from LUMC ongoing cooperation. Afterward, experts visited the Endocrinology Department led by Professor Xu Jing and addressed recent advances in patients' treatment and the importance of active cooperation between clinical and basic researchers in the development of more effective therapies.

Professor Neefjes and Professor Garstka agreed on the bilateral exchange of the postgraduate and doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows and other scientists between Garstka lab at our hospital and Neefjes lab at LUMC for academic visit or study.

On September 19th, Professor Jacques Neefjes and Professor Peter ten Dijke (also from Leiden University delegation) received XJTU Honorary Professor titles presented by the Vice Dean of Health Science Center Professor Chen Teng and delivered excellent talks entitled "Separating DNA from chromatin damage in the drug doxorubicin to remove the side effects while maintaining anti-cancer activities" and "TGF beta signaling in breast cancer", respectively.

The visit of the delegation from Leiden University was possible due to the cooperation between XJTU and Leiden University established by Professor Ye Kai from the Faculty of Electronic and Information Engineering of XJTU. The visit strengthens ongoing cooperation between Garstka and Neefjes labs and opens a new chapter for international exchange between Leiden University and our hospital.
